There are several methods of deep meditation. Here’s the one that always has worked well to start a new spirituality journey:

1. Set aside time in a quiet place, where you will not be disturbed. Place your journal and a pen/pencil close at hand. When you first begin meditating, you may prefer a dimly lit room, using a candle to focus on. Some people envision a bright star in their minds, but this is a bit more difficult to hold constant.

2. You may wish to add music to “jump start” your meditation in order to increase your connection to the universe and control your thoughts. With practice, train your mind to continue meditating at the higher level, after the music stops. You even may prefer to use one piece of music (with or without words) that immediately connects you to the universe at the level of your soul and spirit. You’ll know if this happens, because it will bring tears to your eyes and a swelling in your chest; yet once you connect to your source, you are awash with happiness and peace like you’ve never before felt.

3. Set comfortably but alertly in a comfortable chair or on a pillow on the floor. You may lie in bed in the morning after waking or at night before sleeping; but it’s very easy to fall asleep.

4. Focus on the candle flame, empty your mind, and still your body. At first, you will find your mind taking control and wondering all over the place. This is normal. When you realize that your mind is wondering out of control, just refocus on the candle flame and empty your mind again. It takes practice over time to be able to keep your mind blank for any length of time. Focus until you’re no longer aware of your physical body.

5. Once you have your focus, you have many choices of what to do next:

a. Be still and let God. Just allow the universe to merge with you, letting you feel its presence. You may do an entire meditation like this, if you wish.

b. Use a mantra, especially helpful at first. It keeps your attention on your source, controlling your wandering thoughts. Some individuals and religions believe a mantra connects with evil or pagan spirits, but this is not true.

c. Conversing with the universe within your mind is another choice. Don’t ask for things or pass along information at this point. The universe already knows what you and everyone else in the world needs and desires. This is the time for you to hand over your problems and concerns to the universe, then make an affirmation statement. For example: Problem: “I am afraid I can’t fulfill my financial responsibilities”.

Affirmation: “I know my needs are already provided by you, and I am not concerned.”

d. Then, be still in the silence and pay attention for the response. As to the type of response you receive, this will depend upon your proficiency in meditation. You may hear a voice (thoughts that aren’t your own) in your mind that speaks to you, or you may see pictures/video (visions) in your mind.

Once you have this first awareness that the universe is responding to you, you’ll begin to get many more pictures (visions). So, pay attention to what you “see” within your mind during your meditation. Sometimes, the visions move so fast and there are so many that you can’t remember them all after the meditation, but let them flow. Once you begin trying to remember, your brain will kick in and the visions stop. Just pay close attention to what you “see”.

e. Be sure to thank your source, not only for this time/response but also for all it provides to you. After completing the meditation is over, immediately record any experiences you had in your journal. Don’t worry if you feel that you didn’t have a “good” meditation — there is no such thing as a bad one. Something is accomplished at all meditations, whether you are aware of it or not. Just keep at it and observe all the mental pictures and “chatter”; then, write everything you remember in your journal. Eventually, you’ll see responses and/or patterns starting to emerge. This is the start of your spiritual awakening.

Keep your experiences to yourself, especially in the beginning. Otherwise, you may find yourself having to explain and defend ideas and insights you were given. Then, the ego comes in and manifesting (the universe-driven process) stops.

Ever wonder why some people never get anything good out of their life? That’s because they don’t know what they want in the first place!

You must be specific in your passions, then you must focus all your efforts on that particular desire.

Some people don’t really know what they want. For one moment they’re excited over a particular thing or endeavor. The next thing you know they completely abandon it; either because they lose their interest or because they give up when they encounter a little problem. They will never get anywhere if they are always changing their minds or giving up easily. They have not experienced a spiritual awakening. Maybe right now you’re a bit confused. You don’t seem to know what you really want in life. You might want to consider these to start your new spirituality journey:

1. What gets your heart pounding with excitement?
2. What makes you happy?
3. What are you consistently thinking of day & night?
4. What do you want to do for the rest of your life?
5. What do you enjoy doing?
6. What are your obsessions?
7. What things make you jump with joy?

To help you out, just follow these steps.

1. Write on a piece of paper all your possible answers for the seven questions above. Write anything, even seemingly unimportant ones.

2. Encircle 5 to 7 items that interests you the most.

3. Then evaluate and choose with your heart the one and only thing that is worthy to spend all your time and resources with. The choice you make should be something that makes you a better person.

Other than the exercise above, you could also ask your close friends and relatives about their personal dreams. You could also read books and surf the net to help you in your search.

Use your heart. Other people may disagree with you, but you should be firm with what you really want. Others may offer their input but the final decision is always yours to make. You should focus on your dreams, not other people’s dreams for you.

Then you have to constantly visualize and affirm your desires.

If you want to be a lawyer, visualize as one. Act like one. Think of what suit you’re wearing, the judge you’re convincing, the case you’re handling, and the courtroom you’re in. Visualize the evidences. Smell the victory. Make everything real.

Believe that you are what you are visualizing. So you want to be a lawyer? Tell yourself, ‘I’m the best lawyer in the world.’ Don’t say to yourself, ‘I will be the best lawyer in the world.’

Affirm strongly. Say ‘I am,’ not ‘I will,’ because ‘I will’ suggests something that will occur only in the future. It has to be something you experience NOW, not in the future.

You must sink into your subconscious your deepest desire. The subconscious mind can do what the conscious mind cannot.

Here’s an exercise.

1. Find a comfortable and peaceful place to rest.

2. Relax your whole body. Command every part of your body to relax starting from your feet up to your head.

3. Slowly count back from 20 to 1 while relaxing deeper and deeper with each count. Upon reaching 1, you are completely relaxed.

4. Now affirm your deepest desire. If you want to be a lawyer, say,’ I am the greatest lawyer in the world.’ As you’re saying that, picture yourself to be the best lawyer ever, winning every case you’ve come across. You may say ‘I am now explaining to the jury my winning proposition’ or anything that will affirm what you’re conceiving in your mind as of the moment.

5. After about 10 to 20 minutes of continuous confirmation and visualization, count slowly from 1 to 20. Upon counting, slowly be aware of your surroundings. Feel refreshed and invigorated after doing this exercise.

6. Repeat this exercise every day. What you have just learned is a very powerful technique that enhances the power of visualization and affirmation by embedding it into the subsconsious. What once is nearly impossible to achieve will become easier to reach from now on.

Don’t go sleeping tonight without making a final decision on WHAT YOU REALLY WANT IN LIFE MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Then every day, visualize and affirm.
